Inez Simoes Takes ‘Triple’ to Lead RC to State ‘B’ Title

Date: 2/13/2009
Location: Bennett Center in Toms River
Ines Simoes, RC’s sophomore sensation, completed a tremendous ‘triple’ by winning the 3,200 in a meet-record 11:25.22 to put an exclamation point on the Non-Public B team title for Roselle Catholic.

But Simoes did not do it by herself. We started the meet off with a big boost in the first event, getting a 1-2 finish from Tara Sandlin (1:01.93) and Catie Cohen (1:03.14) in the meet-opening 400 meters to grab 18 quick points. After that Ines went on to win the 1600m, 800m, and 3200m, to sweep the distance events.

Roselle Catholic also received big points from its throwers, as Naima Graham took third (32-10¼) and Jasmine Jilus was fifth (29-4) in the shot put.
Sheana Foster rounded out the scoring for Roselle Catholic with a fifth-place finish in the 55 hurdles in 10.28. Combine that with a 2nd place finish in the 4x400 and we totaled 66 points to win the State Championship.... a GREAT Team effort by everyone.!

RC BOYS TEAM TAKES THIRD!
The boys placed 3rd in the Championship Meet and raced and threw extremely well. We placed 3 boys in the top six of the 1600, and 2 in the 3200. Senior Travis Boscia was 2nd in the 800m and sophomore thrower Alex Almeida threw a big personal record of 41' (he had never threw over 40 before), while first year sprinter Junior Daryl Sessoms scored a 6th in the 400m by winning the unseeded section. The boys team competed really well.
