6/21/2010 ROBERT STICKLES '66 NAMED RC PRINCIPAL
In September of 1962, incoming freshman Bob Stickles was assigned to Homeroom 1A as one of the first students to walk into the newly constructed campus of Roselle Catholic High School. On July 1, 2010 Dr. Stickles will enter that same building having recently been appointed the first alumni principal of RCHS.

In the photo on the right, Robert Stickles ‘66 and Br. Owen Ormsby, RC President, sign the papers that officially makes Mr. Stickles the first alumnus of the school to serve as Principal.

4/29/2010 BOOK CLUB GETS INTO POEM IN YOUR POCKET DAY
On April 29th RC celebrated “National Poem in Your Pocket Day”, an annual event sponsored by the American Academy of Poets. Members of the RCHS Book Club distributed poems in the school throughout the day ensuring that students and staff members had poems to read, share and keep in their pockets.

4/1/2010 STUDENTS MAKE WEST VIRGINIA COMMUNITY SERVICE TRIP
Fifteen Roselle Catholic juniors and seniors gave up eight days of their Easter spring break, to volunteer for a service trip to Wheeling, West Virginia. The students are part of the Marist Youth group at RC, a group whose work is modeled on the example of Marcelin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers. This is the fifth Easter break trip for RC students.

3/19/2010 LAB 20/20 DEDICATED IN HONOR OF TRELEASE FAMILY
On Friday March 19, Roselle Catholic dedicated its innovative learning space, Lab 20/20. This forward-looking computer lab, contains all wireless laptops, a big plasma screen, a large movable Smartboard and numerous other hi-tech features. In only a few short weeks since it opened, students have been able to produce state of the industry, creative digital films and many other graphic design projects.

3/15/2010 TWO RC SENIORS ANNAPOLIS BOUND!
For the first time in the school’s history, two Roselle Catholic seniors have received acceptance into the prestigious United States Naval Academy at Annapolis in the same year.

Kathleen O’Brien of Elizabeth and Stephen Patricco of Union, both members of RC’s class of 2010, have earned this distinction after having received nominations from Senator Menendez and Congressman Lance respectively. Katie and Steve have shared every class for their first three years at RC, including homeroom.

3/11/2010 RC WELL REPRESENTED AT AWARDS DINNER
On Thursday March 11, 2010, the Union County Friendly Sons of St. Patrick held its annual Awards Dinner. Over 40 Roselle Catholic Alumni were in attendance at the event, and RC was also well represented at this year’s award ceremony, as many of the honorees had a Roselle Catholic connection.

2/28/2010 LADY LIONS REPEAT AS UCT CHAMPS!
After a snow-out of the UCT Girls Finals last Thursday, most of Roselle came out for Sunday night's 35th Union County Tournament final between top-seeded Roselle Catholic and third-seeded Roselle. It was great to see the "Lions Den" packed to capacity, and several times it felt as though the roof was going to blow right off the building.

The Lady Lions scored the final seven points of the game to earn a 72-66 victory over Roselle and earn their second straight UCT crown. RC under head coach Joe Skrec, won its first title in 2003, and now has won three UCT titles in that time frame.

2/24/2010 RC BOWLING – ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON
In what is becoming an impressive routine, the 2009-2010 Roselle Catholic Bowling Season was again very successful, championship one … finishing first in Union County Conference play … winning the Union County Championship … capturing the North Jersey Group 1 State Sectionals.

2/4/2010 SIX SENIORS NAMED 2010 BLOUSTEIN SCHOLARS
Roselle Catholic is proud to announce that six seniors have been selected as Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars for 2010. They are Brandon Bernier, Catherine Cohen, Nadia Elbaar, Patrick Gora, Nicole Karas, and Kathleen O’Brien.

1/21/2010 ALLISON SKREC NAMED STAR-LEDGER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
In a four-day span last week, RC’s Allison Skrec scored 21 points in a 50-26 victory against Gov. Livingston on Jan. 14, matched her career-high of 31 points in a 49-47 loss to Cranford on Jan. 16, and then struck for 29 points in Roselle Catholic's biggest victory of the season, a 55-42 decision against Piscataway, ranked # 5 in The Star-Ledger Top 20 at the time, on Jan. 17th.

1/19/2010 COACH SKREC EARNS 200TH VICTORY
RC Girls Basketball Varsity Coach, Joe Skrec earned his 200th career victory in a 44-34 win over Summit on January 19th.

In 14 seasons, Skrec, a 1984 RC graduate and current Athletic Director owns a 200-124 career mark. His Lady Lions are the defending UCT title holders.

1/19/2010 ALLISON SKREC SCORES 1,000th POINT
Allison Skrec becomes the 5th basketball standout in school history (boy or girl) to reach the 1,000-point milestone. She scored the 1,000th point in the victory over Gov. Livingston and now has 1,078 career points. Skrec has played a big part in the Lady Lion’s #6 Union County ranking and 18-3 record as of this date had this to say, "It's not something I go out trying to do (scoring 1,000 points). We have a real balanced team and I'm lucky that I have teammates that get me the ball a lot."

10/14/2009 RC “SPIKE BREAST CANCER” VOLLEYBALL FUNDRAISER
Students, parents, coaches and faculty joined together on October 14th at the RC gym for the Second Annual Spike Breast Cancer volleyball match in honor of Nancy Riley, senior Samantha Riley’s mother who passed away from the disease this past summer.

9/28/2009 BRANDON BERNIER NAMED COMMENDED STUDENT
Roselle Catholic received a letter from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announcing that BRANDON BERNIER, a member of the Senior Class has been named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Program.

6/16/2009 3rd ANNUAL SUMMER SERVICE DAYS
When Roselle Catholic closed its doors for the summer, more than 150 students, alumni, teachers and parents volunteered for three days of Community Service.

4/20/2009 LOUISE TONIC WINS NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Louise Tonic, a Roselle Catholic senior, has been selected as the winner of a National Achievement Scholarship sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Ms. Tonic is one of eight hundred students in the United States to win this prestigious award, which recognizes outstanding Black American students who show exceptional academic promise.

2/27/2009 LADY LIONS CLINCH UCT TITLE IN A THRILLER!
The evening of February 27, 2009 will be one long remembered by every fan that attended the 34th annual Frank J. Cicarell Union County Tournament championship game at Roselle Catholic. That was the case when fourth-seeded Roselle Catholic and second-seeded Plainfield battled for the right to see who was going to be declared the best girls’ basketball team in Union County. In the end, exactly five minutes short of two hours and two overtimes, the Lady Lions found a way to put themselves over the top, and win their second UCT Championship in seven seasons.

2/21/2009 RC BOWLERS REPEAT AS STATE CHAMPIONS
Roselle Catholic Bowling Team concluded the best two-year run in school history as the repeat Group 1 champion.

The team also won the Mountain Valley Conference Title; the North Jersey Section 2 Group 1 Title; and Sophomore Joe Gramiak won the individual Union County Championship.

2/13/2009 RC GIRLS WIN NJ PAROCHIAL ‘B’ STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
Friday the 13th turned out to be anything but unlucky for the Roselle Catholic Girls Indoor Track Team, as they won the State Non-Public ‘B’ Championship at the NJSIAA/Star-Ledger Non-Public Championships at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

1/31/2009 LADY LIONS CLINCH MVC
The Roselle Catholic girls basketball team defeated Johnson for the second time this season, 42-40, on January 30th to clinch the Mountain Valley Conference's Mountain Division championship, only the second time in program history the Lady Lions won this title.

1/30/2009 RC BRIDGES OUTREACH IN NYC
In conjunction with BRIDGES, an outreach program for the homeless, 17 RC students traveled into NYC to bring some relief to our homeless friends, one of five Bridges trips taken by RC students during the course of the school year.

1/17/2009 RC SWEEPS MVC INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
Roselle Catholic pulled off an impressive sweep at the Mountain Valley Conference Championships January 2nd at Drew University in Madison, winning both the Boys and Girls titles.

For the girls team it's the first MVC indoor track title in program history, and for the boys team it's the 3rd in 6 years!

1/1/2009 INES SIMOES NAMED STAR LEDGER RUNNER OF THE YEAR
RC Sophomore Ines Simoes named the Star Ledger Union County Female Cross Country Runner of the Year after her first place finish this past October at the Union County Cross County Championships. Ines is the first female in RC history to win an Individual Cross Country Title.
