RC boys’ soccer just completed one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history, winning a dozen games and playing a state tournament game on its home field for the first time in at least 16 seasons. Junior forward Antonio Altamirano set a Roselle Catholic record with 33 goals, the highest total in Union County this season. The RC girls’ program again made it to the state tournament and returns many members from this year's team with high expectations for next season.
To promote the continued growth and success of its soccer programs, Roselle Catholic is planning some much-needed repairs and enhancements to the soccer field.
These improvements will enable Roselle Catholic to schedule more games against schools with high caliber soccer programs. The upgraded field will also enhance the School’s ability to attract students for whom soccer is an important factor in deciding where they attend high school.
In addition to its direct benefits for the soccer programs, the Soccer Field Improvement Project will enable Roselle Catholic to entertain the possibility of introducing new sports programs, such as lacrosse.
Time For A Needed Makeover!
One of the signs of autumn around Roselle Catholic is an outburst of activity on our soccer field. Both our girls and boys have varsity and junior varsity teams, and so the field is occupied, with games or practices, literally every day for hours after school. On top of that, as soon as the school year starts, our Physical Education teachers use the field for gym classes.
With winter, everyone goes inside, but they return in the Spring and the field is once more in play. Also, the field is made available to grammar schools, like St. Joseph in Roselle, for their Field Day and track events.
This level of use, season after season and year after year, for fifty-plus years, makes for a lot of wear and tear. The field, full of ruts and moguls, now shows its age, and we've reached the point where the players' safety could become an issue.
Additionally, the irrigation system, as old as the field itself, is in need of repair and upgrading. The time has come for a makeover. This is especially so since both our girls and boys teams are enjoying great success over the past few seasons, and, given that the mainstays are returning next season, we have reason to expect that success to continue. They deserve a field whose quality reflects their high level of play.
We have consulted some experts and have learned that we can put the field in prime condition for approximately $100,000. This is a lot of money and we don't have room for this in our regular budget. So, much like our successful Girls Locker Room project last year, we need the support of our alumni and friends to get this job done.
Please help us with a generous donation to this year's PRIDE of THE LIONS campaign.
We respectfully ask you to consider making a gift to this year’s campaign to provide our athletes and students with a soccer field they deserve.
We promise it will be a worthwhile investment!

2014 PRIDE OF THE LIONS CAMPAIGN
A few years ago, the RC alumni community established the “Pride of The Lions Fund” to keep the tradition of athletic excellence and Roselle Catholic’s distinctive sporting values alive.
The purpose of the Pride of The Lions Fund is to underwrite the annual athletic budget as well as to make long-deferred improvements to the school’s athletic facilities. From the 2013 campaign, the Fund contributed more than $50,000 to the Renovation of the Girls Locker Room and the Roselle Catholic athletic budget.
For 2014, the campaign’s focus is the enhancement of the Soccer Field.
Your gift can be designated in one of three ways:
1. Soccer Field Improvement Project: a restricted gift to fund the improvements to the soccer field.
2. Friends Of: a gift directed to support the operational costs for an individual sports program.
3. Unrestricted: an unrestricted gift will go where it is needed most.
All contributions to Pride of The Lions Fund are tax deductible.
A gift to the Pride of The Lions Fund helps the school in many ways. By helping to underwrite the athletic budget, and this year, the soccer field remediation, more of the school’s resources can be devoted to Roselle Catholic’s core academic, social, spiritual and moral missions.
Many thanks for your help and support!
