Lion Alums Doing The Dance


March Madness is in full swing and RC alumni are heating up the NCAA Tournaments for their respective colleges. Kate Tobie RC '14 and Chris Silva, Isaiah Briscoe, Tyffani McQueen, all Class of 2015, have been integral in their team’s success in tournament play.

Chris Silva of South Carolina and Isaiah Briscoe of Kentucky head into the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Men’s Division I Tournament this weekend.
Tyffani McQueen RC '15
Tyffani McQueen, a CAC Player of the Week for the week of February 13th, led Marymount University Women’s Basketball past Guilford and then Albright in the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament, before falling to St. Thomas in the Sweet 16 Round of the tournament.

McQueen, who averaged 9 points and 3 rebounds per game on the season, provided those exact 9 points and 3 rebounds in her final game this season.

Kate Tobie RC '14
Kate Tobie, recently named 2nd Team All-NJAC, helped lead Montclair State University to their 5th Consecutive (her 3rd) NJAC title.  MSU Women’s team then headed into the NCAA Division III Tournament, defeating Westfield State University in the 1st Round before being edged by UMass Dartmouth in the 2nd Round of the Tournament.

Tobie scored 13 points and provided 5 assists in that final game, having averaged 8.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists a game during the season.

Chris Silva RC '15
Chris Silva, a key contributor to South Carolina Men’s Basketball, not only led the Gamecocks to their first NCAA Tournament victory in over 40 years - 44 years to be exact - but has led them into the Sweet Sixteen Round with a 20 point win over Marquette and a surprising upset win over perennial powerhouse Duke.

In the big win over Duke, Silva had a team high 10 rebounds and 2 blocks while also providing 17 points, including a crucial dunk in the opening minutes of the 2nd half, cutting Duke’s then lead to just 1 and shifting the momentum in the game.  

Silva is averaging 10 points a game to go with 5.8 rebounds per game for the season, heading into Sweet Sixteen action against Baylor, Friday night at MSG with a 7:29 tip off.

Isaiah Briscoe RC '15 
Isaiah Briscoe, a standout player for the University of Kentucky, is averaging 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game throughout the season.  Briscoe helped lead Kentucky into the Sweet 16 Round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball tournament with big wins over Northern Kentucky University and Wichita State.

The Wildcats are now heading to Tennessee for the Sweet 16 Round of the Tournament to face UCLA. You can watch this game Friday night, March 24th, on CBS with a 9:39 tip off.
